ABOUT DISH GALLERY + STUDIO

The Toronto Distillery Historic District is a national historic site that has been transformed into a center for arts, culture and entertainment in downtown Toronto. Set on 13 acres, the 40 buildings on the site constitute the best-preserved collection of Victorian Industrial Architecture in North America.

As an area that hosts the filming of movies, tv shows and music videos,

the District is also home to internationally acclaimed festivals, galleries, theatres, restaurants, boutiques and artists studios including DISH GALLERY + STUDIO.

Monday & Tuesday - By chance or by appointment.

DISH GALLERY + STUDIO in the Distillery District offers

  • Introductory pottery workshops on weekends 1pm -3pm, 3pm - 5 pm.
  • Wednesday pottery classes Sept. - June
  • Retail Gallery featuring one of a kind, handmade Canadian ceramics
  • Semi-private pottery classes for artists by appointment
  • Ceramic exhibitions
  • Team building events
  • Couples workshops for birthdays, Valentine's Day, holiday gifts

 

WEDNESDAY POTTERY CLASSES

Registrations are currently being accepted  for the Spring 2012 session

Afternoon and Evening classes start 1pm and 6:30 pm

   8 hands-on sessions
   $300 - plus materials

              Wed 6:30-10:30pm

    6 hands-on sessions

    $260 - plus materials

Students are taught to recycle their clay and to use water sparingly. The class size is very small (1-5 people) and students receive individual attention from the instructor for their skill level. Students participate in the whole process from forming the clay to glazing to learning about the firing  process.

LICKED BY FIRE

Exhibition of ceramic works created through wood firing, smoke firing, raku or gas firing techniques.Works by: Celia Brandao, Susan Card, Shu-Chen Cheng, Robert Tetu, Chiho Tokita.

The gallery feature “Licked By Fire”, is an exhibition of distinctive styles of pottery showing the effects of the flame in various firing methods, resulting in distinguishing” colour and surface patterns. Artists will be present to discuss the work 7pm Sat., Oct. 1, 2011. Works by: Celia Brandao, Susan Card, Shu-Chen Cheng, Lee Clark, Robert Tetu.

Private collection of ceramic works created by using the metal oxide IRON as a colorant to create traditional celadon, shino, tenmoku and low fire glazes.

DISH GALLERY has particiated as an INDEPENDENT PROJECT PARTNER for Scotiabank Nuit Blanche the all night contemporary art thing in Toronto, 6:55 pm to sunrise. During Scotiabank Nuit Blanche 2010, DISH GALLERY + STUDIO mounted an interactive art project entitled the MYSTIC CLAY PAD October 2, 2010 6:55 pm to sunrise, accompanied by the ceramic exhibition TEXT AS DRAWING .
